The Light Lab

A darker room, on purpose — so colour has somewhere to glow.

The Light Lab — children exploring the exhibit

Step out of the daylight and into a room built for light itself. Cast a shadow the size of the wall, catch a rainbow in a prism, and pour red into teal until you make a colour with no name. The Light Lab is the museum’s quietest, most wondrous room — where discovery happens in the dark.

WHAT YOU’LL DISCOVER

Three things to try.

01

The Shadow Wall

A phosphorescent wall that holds your shadow for ten seconds after you move. Freeze, jump, run — leave a trace.

02

The Prism Bench

Hand-held prisms and a single beam of white light. Split it, bend it, and find the colours hiding inside.

03

The Colour-Mixing Table

Translucent tiles on a glowing table. Stack red on teal, teal on gold, and chase a colour you can’t quite name.

Colours you can mix

Children whisper in here. They don’t decide to — the light just asks for it. It’s the calmest crowd in the building.
